Farage is a brand that is synonymous with the finest corporate tailoring. Joe Farage the man behind the brand shares fashion tips on finding the perfect suit, wardrobe essentials, upcoming trends and his idea of style.
Tell us about the Farage brand?
Celebrating 15 years of business this year, Farage was built on a shared passion with my wife Katy. The brand has grown from its fledging beginnings of a small menswear boutique in the Strand Arcade with a focus on the heritage of tailoring and hand crafted shirts, into a celebrated Australian luxury brand.
What made you branch into women’s wear?
Originally focusing on quality menswear; Katy & I quickly identified a gap in the marketplace for quality tailored suiting and shirting for women – whilst there were a number of women’s fashion brands out there at the time; classic but modern office attire was hard to come by.
What makes your designs stand out from other work wear brands?
We focus on timeless craftsmanship; and quality is the key to the Farage brand. Our brand is classic yet modern, and we don’t focus on trends. Choosing from a range of the finest European fabrics each piece is lovingly handcrafted in Australia.
Who are some of your favourite designers?
I love what Saint Laurent is doing for women’s tailoring at the moment – I also feel Stella McCartney knows how to put a modern twist on classic tailoring.
What are the essentials every woman should have in her wardrobe?
Every woman should start with the basics, particularly when it comes to office attire. Start with a well tailored suit in a classic shade of either rich navy or black, a well cut white shirt is an essential for every working woman & a classic pair of black pumps.
What is your advice for dressing different body types?
Choose items that are classic & timeless and be conscious not to follow trends.
How do you choose a well fitted suit?
Invest in quality fabrics and get to know your tailor; very few people can buy straight off the rack & it’s the details that make a difference to a quality suit.
What are the upcoming key trends for women’s corporate wear?
Women are looking for versatility in their wardrobe, but at the same time are happy to invest in key pieces
What is the top colour for spring?
The key pop colour for spring is coral; black & white is also very relevant this season.
Farage Simone Shirt $220 & Marguerite Tweed Skirt $329
What is the statement jacket for Spring?
The Farage Pearly Jacket; classic tailoring with a modern twist, By far the most versatile piece for the season; this jacket will work well just as well over a dress at the office as it will with Jeans for casual Friday or at the weekend.
If I were to buy one fashion item tomorrow what should it be?
The Farage Anais Dress in grey; this dress is the perfect piece to take every woman from the desk to dinner.
Farage Anais Dress $489
Who is your female style icon and why?
I’m a sucker for history; Audrey Hepburn was so chic & timeless – her style is just as relevant today. Having said that I also admire Kate Middleton’s approach to style, her ability to blend luxury with high street seems effortless and very chic.
